Rhyme Finder: Rhymes, Near Rhymes & Syllable Counter

How to use the rhyme finder

Type a word and press Find rhymes. You get perfect rhymes (same ending sound, like light and night) and near or slant rhymes (similar vowel or ending, like time and line), grouped by syllable count. Click any result to look up its rhymes. Filter by syllables to fit your flow, and turn on consonance for words that share the ending consonant. Paste your lyrics into the syllable counter to see the count for every line, which helps lines match across verses.

Frequently asked questions

What is a near rhyme?

A near rhyme, also called a slant rhyme, shares some sounds but not all, usually the vowel or the final consonant. Time and line, or heart and hard, are near rhymes.

What is the difference between a perfect rhyme and a slant rhyme?

A perfect rhyme matches every sound from the last stressed vowel to the end, like cat and hat. A slant rhyme only matches part of it.

How does the syllable counter work?

It looks up each word in a built-in pronunciation dictionary and counts its vowel sounds. Words that are not in the dictionary get an estimate from their spelling.

Does the rhyme finder use an online API?

No. The dictionary of about 20,000 common English words is built in and loads once in your browser. What you type is not sent anywhere.

Why is my word not found?

Very rare words, names and slang may not be in the built-in dictionary. Try a common form of the word, or a word that ends with the same sound.
